Don't forget about the infamous "power chord". It's basically a simplified bar chord, as opposed to an open chord like students usually learn first. It is easier for new fingers to play the power chord vs the full bar chord, and then all you have to do is move it up and down the fretboard (or move it up and down a string) to hit all of the major chords.
